The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated existing inequalities around the world, including in the higher education sector. Students, early-career researchers, and university faculty have faced enormous challenges. The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) and the Global Young Academy (GYA) have produced a communiqué exploring some of the most pressing equality challenges and opportunities presented by the COVID-19 pandemic for higher education systems. The document also provides recommendations for priority actions to mitigate the long-term impacts of COVID-19 on higher education and to improve higher education systems globally. Recommendations include promoting open education and research collaboration and expanding digital connectivity and access to hardware.
