14th Biennial Meeting of the IHRN

The fourteenth biennial meeting of the International Human Rights Network of Academies and Scholarly Societies (IHRN), was hosted by the Academy of Science of South Africa from June 6-8, 2023 in Pretoria, South Africa. The IHRN, created in 1993, works to address global concerns related to science and human rights and to promote the free exchange of ideas and opinions among scientists and scholars in all countries.

The meeting featured 35 participants, representing 25 national academies from around the world, as well as members of the South African scientific community. In addition to a private workshop for national academies representatives, the meeting included a symposium and a special session for early career scholars on the Role of National Academies and Universities in Promoting Human Rights and Enhancing Equality. Early Career Scholars Session

This panel discussion featured early career scholars highlighting pressing challenges related to human rights and social justice, as well as ways in which academies and universities can help to address these challenges.
